Happy New Year

Just a quick note to wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year.

To my friends who left me those wonderful messages on my last post, I'm sorry I haven't been able to reply to you all individually, but I want you to know how much your well wishes and prayers have meant to me. Thank you.

We had a bit of a scare over the Christmas, with Mom's oxygen machine.  The first incident happened in the early hours of Christmas morning when I woke to the sound of the machine's alarm.  For some reason the power had gone out, but luckily I keep 2 oxygen tanks on hand in case of such an emergency. I got Mom hooked up to the tank, and fortunately the power came back on a few hours later.
Two nights later, or very early in the morning, the alarm went again, only this time the power was alright, but the machine was broken!!  It was 1:00 a.m., we were having a snow storm, and I only had one tank left!
I called the emergency number for the oxygen supplier, but he wasn't able to come right away, something about a snow plow blocking his truck, but he would get here as soon as he could. I lowered Mom's oxygen a little so the tank would last a bit longer, and waited.  Fortunately, the new machine, and back-up tanks arrived at 8:00 a.m., just as the tank was on empty.  Mom slept through it all, but I have few new gray hairs!

I haven't made any New Year's resolutions this year, as I usually fail miserably in keeping them, so all I can say is that I am going to try to finish up a few UFOs, and I have already started de-cluttering my sewing space. Oh, and maybe try to lose a few pounds along the way! lol

What about you? Have you made any resolutions?

Merry Christmas

Mom hasn't been very well these past few months, and life has been hectic, with not much time for quilting, but I didn't want to let the season go by without wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.

Bye for now.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

It's that time of the year again.  Amy, of Amy's Creative Side, has organized this Festival for the past few years, to coincide with the Spring and Fall Quilt Markets.

Amy's Creative Side

As you all know, I love all things applique, so it makes sense that for this year's Fall Festival, I share a photo of my favorite applique baby quilt called "Comfort Is...".

When my daughter was a little girl she had a knitted blanket that her Nana made her, and she seemed to get so much comfort from that "blankie".  Even in the middle of summer, she would have her "blankie" wrapped around her , with beads of persperation on her forehead, but she wouldn't let it go.   She is a married lady now, but she still has her "blankie" tucked away in her memory box.

When I was designing this quilt, I had my daughter and her "blankie" in mind.  I have it put away for her first  child.

                                                           " Comfort is..."                                                         Finished quilt measures -  38" x 46"
                                                         Technique Used - Hand Applique
                                                         Machine Quilted by Lisa Seinen
                                                         Best Category - Baby Quilt

Why don't you drop by Amy's blog, the link is at the top of this post,  and have a peek at some of the fantastic quilts that have been entered this time, or better yet, take a few hours, and browse them all!

Bye for now.

Happy Thanksgiving

Just a quick note to wish my fellow Canadians a Happy Thanksgiving.
I am thankful that Mom is still with us.

 Bye for now.

It's been terribly hot this summer, so between looking after Mom and the heat, I haven't ventured out anywhere. Instead, I've kept myself busy making a few more quilts for the Quilt Guilds outreach program. It feels good to be using up some of my stash for such a worthy cause.

A Little Bit of Applique

Thought you might like to see the latest blocks for my new design.

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

I've been busy! A dear friend had a backlog of baby quilts she needed to get made, so I offered to help, by making the tops for her. Two of the quilts were for twins, and I had the perfect fabrics in my stash, which worked out perfectly.

Hope she likes them. Now I need to get back to my new applique design. Bye for now.

It's hard to believe a month has flown by since my last post!  The robins have been and gone. There were five babies this time.

The nest looks a little crowded doesn't it?

Poor Daisy, DD's Chocolate Lab, kept getting dive bombed by Momma and Poppa Robin whenever she got too close to the pear tree. They must have thought she was a large squirrel! lol

In between all the dull daily chores I have managed to do little applique too!  Here are photos of the first two blocks of a new design I am working on.
I haven't decided on a setting yet, but for now I am happy with the results. What do you think?

Besides being Father's Day today, it is my son's birthday, so I'd better get busy and finish his birthday cake.

Bye for now.

As you all know, I love all things applique, so it makes sense that for this year's Spring Festival,I share a photo of my favorite applique quilt "Vintage Tiles".  I've been caring for my elderly Mother for the past 6 years, and started this quilt during one of Mom's hospital stays.  Applique is so portable, and helps to pass the time.  This is Mom's favorite quilt, and she has always been an inspiration to me.

Outreach Quilts

I thought you might like to see what I've been doing with myself lately.
With Mom's health failing as it has, I haven't been able to put my mind to any large projects, so I've been using up some of my stash making small quilts for my quilt guild's Outreach program.
These are the 2 small quilts I've made over the past month.
I'd like to think they will bring some comfort to a child somewhere.

Bye for now.

Saturday, March 10, 2012

I must apologize for being absent for the past month. There has been a lot going on here, and Mom hasn't been well, so I haven't had a lot of time to spend on my quilting. Now I'm finding it difficult to get motivated.

I did manage to get a few blocks done for a new designs I've been working on and thought you might like to see them. I think this will be a small quilt, with 6 applique blocks, but I haven't decided on the setting yet.

What do you think?

Quilt Show

My local quilt guild, The Oakville Quilters' Guild, is having their quilt show in May. The Sentimental Reasons Quilt show will be held on May 3, 4 & 5, at the Operating Engineers Banquet Hall on Speers Road in Oakville. The guild has a lot of very talented quilters and it should be a fabulous show. To read more about it, and to get directions visit the Guild's blog here:http://oakvillequiltersguild2012.blogspot.com/

Hope to see you there.
