May 27, 2008 - Robin's Nest

Last year we had a robin's nest outside one of our kitchen windows. It was wonderful to watch the process, the eggs all hatching, and to see all 5 baby robins fly away. Imagine our surprise to find the robin's came back again this year, to the same spot. I'm going to try and take photos throughout, to record the process. Here are the first few.

As promised, here is a photo of the few purchases I made in Lancaster last week. There were lots of beautiful fabrics in the shops, just not what I was looking for.

Bye for now.

May 25, 2008

We got back from Lancaster, Pennsylvania late Friday night. The drive home was pleasant, with the exception of the wait to get through Customs at the border.

The weather was unseasonably cool in Lancaster, but that didn't interfere with our shopping. DH took me to a number of fabric shops, Sauder's in Denver, Zook's and The Country Store in Intercourse, Dutchland Quilt Patch and a few others, but I didn't find as much fabric as usual.
I think I bought only 5 or 6 yards of fabric this trip, but I just couldn't find any new, exciting background type fabrics for some new applique projects. I did treat myself to a Silk Batt, and one of the new Cotton/Bamboo batts that I'd heard about. I'll let you know what I think about them later.

Sorry, I don't have any photos this post, but I'll try to do better next time.

Bye for now.

Off To Lancaster

This will be just a quick note to say DH is taking me to Lancaster, Pennsylvania tomorrow for a few days. It will be lovely to get away. DD will look after Mom until my sister arrives and we should be back sometime on Friday.

I'm so looking forward to feeling all that wonderful fabric at Sauder's and Zook's, and I promise to post a few photos of my purchases.

Today I've got to get busy and tidy up the place for my sister coming so I'll say bye for now.
Talk to you later

May 15, 2008

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day.

It's a beautiful day today, the sun is shining, and the dandelions are thriving.

My dear husband went out and bought me one of those new weeders by Fiskars, and boy, does it ever make weeding easier on the old body! I've been trying to do a little weeding every day, but it seems never ending this year.

I did spend some time in my work room yesterday, and drew out the designs for the setting triangles in my new "Vintage Tiles" quilt. No pictures to show yet, but at least it's progress.
I've put the pixie quilt aside for now, as I was "stuck", and just couldn't settle on a design for the surround. I'll try to get back to it soon.

It's my daughters birthday tomorrow, so I've been busy baking her cake, and getting the icing made. I also had to run the vacuum around the house, as the loose threads were taking over.
At least the place will be respectable for company.

Since I've nothing new to show you, I'm posting a photo of another of my designs. This one is called "A Carousel Menagerie" and was designed in 2003, and published in 2004.

I had fun with the embellishing on this one, using swarovski crystals, beads, silk ribbon an threads and Ultra Suede. The colors are brighter than I normally work with but I was trying to challenge myself.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Talk to you later.

May 10, 2008

Sorry for the delay, but life just got a bit hectic this week. Here are a few more photos from last week's quilt show.

Needless to say, with everything else going on, I didn't get much done in my work room this week, again! I'm really hoping things will settle down and I can get back to my work room next week.

In the meantime, here is a photo of another design of mine. This one is called"The Fairies At The Bottom Of My Garden" and I designed it in 2001, and published the patterns in 2002.

I did a bit more embellishing on this one using beads, threads and crystals.

Bye for now.

Quilt Show

As promised, here are some photos from the quilt show yesterday. There were some beautiful quilts in the show, and I was surprised at the number of hand-quilted quilts. The last few shows I've attended the majority of quilts seemed to be machine quilted, so it was nice to see that hand-quilting isn't being entirely replaced by machines.

I'll try to post a few more for you tomorrow.
Bye for now

Try again

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I lost all my previous posts. Time to try again.

It's a dreary rainy day today, but our local Quilt Guild's show is starting today, so maybe the weather will help attendance. I'm hoping to get to the show this afternoon so hopefully I'll have some photos to post later.

I haven't had a very productive week in my work room, so no new photos on my works in progress. Instead I'll post a photo of my very first design, a quilt I called "All About Bears"

I designed this quilt in 1999. This one was made by a good friend ,Maxine Stubbert, and won a ribbon at her local guild's show.

Bye for now. Talk to you later
