Needlework - Old & New

There hasn't been too much activity on the quilting front this week, so I thought maybe I would post some photos of some needlework projects I have completed over the past few years.

Both of the cross stitch were made as gifts for my Mother. The floral vase stitchery was done on a 22 count evenweave with 1 thread, and wrecked my neck! I had to go for physio for months. I think it was worth it though, my mother just loved it. I made the Teddybear for a class I was teaching in Silk Ribbon Embroidery.

Here are photos of needlework done by my Mother and Grandmother that are two of my most treasured possessions.

The Sampler was made by my Mother in 1939. I think it was a project for her 2nd year in college. I'm not sure when my Grandmother made the other one, I think it might have been in the 40's or 50's. During the war, when needlework supplies were difficult to get in England, my Grandfather, who worked for a flour mill, would bring home flour sacks, which my Grandmother would bleach and use for her needlework.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Chat with you later.

oh what lovely memories - and the teddy bear is jus the cutest thing ever. I collect teddy bears and might even consider making one just so I can stitch on her.

Thanks for sharing.

Dorothy, It's wonderful that you have needlework done by your mother & grandmother. My grandma did needlework, too, and anything she made by hand is a treasure to me.

Dorothy, thank you so much for sharing your treasures.
How lucky you are to have stitched pieces from both your mother and grandmother!
I love them both but especially the crinoline lady with the sweet verse.
The one your mom did is dated. A good reminder to all of us to sign and date our work!
Beautiful work from both of them and the talent has obviously been passed down as your work is every bit as lovely.
The teddy you did in the silk ribbon is precious. I've never tried silk ribbon embroidery but it's on the "must do one day" list.
