30s Reproduction Fabrics

I'm sure most of you have a favorite color you like to work with. Have you ever challenged yourself to make a quilt using a color or line of fabric that doesn't appeal to you?
A few years ago, I did just that. At the time the 30s reproduction fabrics were becoming all the rage and it seemed every fabric company had their own line of 30s fabrics., they were everywhere!

A member of the stitch group I belonged to challenged each of us to make a quilt using a color or fabric we wouldn't normally work with. I decided to make something with the 30s.
Big Mistake! I was hooked. I just love the look of quilts made with these fabrics, there is something so cheerful and comforting about them. I don't have a photo of that first quilt I made, a Drunkard's Path, but here is a photo of the next one.

I started this one to use up the scraps from the Drunkard's Path, thinking I would make a small lap size quilt, but I got carried away! It's Queen size. It really made a dent in my 30s stash. I'm hoarding the remainder for a special project as they are much harder to find now.

So challenge yourself, you just might get a pleasant surprise!

Happy Stitching.

I adore this quilt - it is just the kind I might make for myself - though heaven knows, I've not got the time right now to start another project. I love the colors (30s being my favorites) the design, the hearts, the ribbons, the quilting - I love it all. Great work, as always.

I never thought I would use these fabrics either. I tend to go with brights and bold. But I a nice size collection of fat quarters. I made a twin quilt for a neighbor out of them. Now I am too hooked. I want to make one for me and maybe redo my sewing room with these. Good luck with you next quilt. Have you posted pictures of the drunkard's path?

Opps. Forget the question. I misread. You do not have a photo of that one! Sorry about that. I did not get a photo of mine either. It was Flying geese using Eleanor Burns' Quilt in a Day.

I like your quilt design. I have only just fallen in love with 30s fabrics and started collecting them. If I had to challenge myself to make a quilt using fabrics and colours I didn't like, it would have to be browns - i'm usually a bright colours gal. Don't think I'm ready for that! lol

Wow! I never cease to be amazed at how gorgeous all of your quilts are!
This one is a real beauty. Those ribbon bows in the corner are so pretty and while I haven't made anything with 1930's fabrics yet I do love the look of them.
